In her series 27, Tracey samples the central pixel of the 27 most Googled colour photographs of members from the 27 Club. These colour samples are then presented as stripes to form a colour palette, acting as a kind of non-traditional portrait.

The popularity of Google images are determined by society, and as such, this series could be recreated every year using the same process and the result would change each time. In this, Tracey’s series becomes representative of the way content in social media gains a short-lived viral status before being replaced by new images. Her practice can be construed as photographic in its concept and methodology, as it captures a moment in time in the virtual realm, similarly to how a camera captures a moment in the physical world.

27 is a multi-award winning series. It received the Dean’s Award for the Sydney College of the Arts Undergraduate Show of 2013, and was presented with the Staff Choice Award from Clyde & Co in 2014.
